About – The Brick Lamp

We are The Brick Lamp.

The initial thought behind The Brick Lamp was to research buildings in Detroit with historical significance and try to salvage bricks when these buildings were being demolished. We would then make bricks from these buildings available to those that might be interested in repurposing those bricks. During our many trips through the city we realized there are some buildings in Detroit that have succumbed to a variety of issues (old age, disrepair, fire, etc).

These buildings, with a limited life span, became the canvas for some very colorful and artistic graffiti. In an effort to preserve this type of art we decided to salvage graffiti covered bricks when these buildings were being demolished and convert the bricks to accent lamps. The result is that the bricks, which would otherwise be thrown in a landfill, are repurposed and the vibrant art and colors live on.

These accent lamps include bricks with original graffiti directly from buildings in the City of Detroit. The vintage bulbs that we use add to the “industrial” theme. There is a wide range of colors available and the color choices continually change based on the bricks we are able to reclaim.

These accent lamps will complement many decors and are certain to generate conversation. If you are looking for a gift for the person that seems to have everything, this would be perfect since it is unlikely they will have an accent lamp from The Brick Lamp. I also believe they would appreciate having a very unique lamp with City of Detroit heritage.
